Cheap, Tacky, and unprofessional. All words that could be used to describe costume jewelry.
So why would one buy costume jewelry?
These priceless pieces of body décor have been around for ages and have brought countless smiles to the faces of people of all ages; Children, teenagers, and adults.
There are limitless applications for this kind of jewelry and it comes in all shapes and sizes.
Bracelets, necklaces, rings, eyewear, etc. have all become a very large part of the costume jewelry family.
Though this type of jewelry is primarily recognized as "dress up" material, it is not always designed for this purpose. You can find exact replicas of much more expensive and valuable pieces. Also known as "Fashion Jewelry", costume jewelry is designed to look as elegant as the "real stuff" at a much more affordable rate. Thus, the person buying the jewelry can purchase multiple pieces for the same overall cost as one item of authenticity.
What does this mean to you?
Well, in very simple terms it means that you can 1 dollar for a replica of piece that looks exactly like a piece that costs 10 dollars. These dollar figures are relative; however it is very realistic in that you will pay about 1/10 of the cost for costume jewelry. This is all contingent, of course, on how much you care about name brands.
So, to wrap things up, costume jewelry can serve many purposes and certainly has its advantages. It is not for everyone though. My personal opinion is that if you have the extra cash laying around to pay $1,000.00 for a ring then go for it. Or, perhaps, you could buy a replica at 1/10 of the cost and donate the rest to a charity? Hmmm.......Some food for thought.
