Body Jewelry

Body jewelry has come a long way in recent years. Years ago it was considered strange if anything more than your ears were pierced and to see earrings on a man would actually be frowned upon. Nowadays it is quite common to see large amounts of piercing and body jewelry being worn by one single person.

Body piercing was seen as something the more adventurous would have considered having done and even then it would be limited to ears. With increasing popularity body piercing is becoming a trend and sometimes an addiction.
Quite often you will see people with not only their ears pierced but also various other parts of the body including the navel, lips and tongue. These piercing are not limited to women they are also seen on men.

Having a body piercing involves puncturing your skin with a specialist tool and adding a piece of body jewelry hygiene is an important factor when having any sort of piercing as infections are common.
It is important to keep the pierced area clean and germ free, it is recommended that you should not touch a piercing for at least 24 hours and after that make sure your wash your hands before touching the piercing due to the amount of germs your hands carry.

You may find the company who did the piercing recommends a solution to clean your piercing however you can always tea tree oil. Just add a few drops to some water and use a cotton bud to clean the area.

If you have a piercing in your mouth or lip it is strongly recommended that you do not smoke as this can irritate the skin, if this is not possible try using an alcohol free mouthwash after smoking or rinse with mild salt water.

Try not to over clean the piercing as this can cause irritation and soreness buy make sure you inspect the area each day and if you are unhappy with it or feel you may have an infection then it is wise to see your GP as you may need antibiotics.

Once the area is clean and you are at a point where you can change the piece of body jewelry you can start looking around for new pieces of jewelry.

Body jewelry can be anything from belly button rings to toe rings, its any type of jewelry you place on your body.
Wholesale body jewelry is where large quantities of jewelry are sold in one go, this is often the method used when purchasing stock for a shop or factory.

Sterling Silver 1/10 cttw Diamond Bracelet

Sterling Silver 1/10 cttw Diamond Bracelet Review

I like this bracelet.... I don't love it, but I like it. But, of the 39 individual links, only 20 actually have a (one each) diamond in them. And the diamonds are very cloudy to boot. So, don't buy this if you are looking for diamonds because without the use of a strong magnifying glass, you'll never see them. The photos I shared are an attempt to give you an idea of what you are buying. The diamonds are about a third of a millimeter.... the overall width of the bracelet is 3/8 inch.

The other reviewer that doesn't like the clasp.... I understand the problem, but after several times of pushing it in and releasing, it has loosened up to the point that I can put it on by myself.

Body Jewelry and Piercing Basics

If you can pinch it, you can pierce it, or so the saying goes. And as a result of this, we have seen a real renaissance in terms of both body jewelry and where the piercings can be placed. If you are interested in fascinating ways to adorn your body, getting yourself pierced in a fun and interesting way might be exactly what you are looking for. While there is a whole culture that uses body modification as a way to express themselves and their views, what is important is that you are getting the piercing for a reason that is important to you, whether you have always wanted a certain type of jewelry or you have always felt a certain bareness when you are looking at a specific part of you.

The first thing to think about is finding the right piercer. Rather then heading to the mall or having a friend doing it with a sewing needle, head to a piercing parlor, where someone who has been trained in the art of piercing can go about it with the proper tools. The gun that so many retail stores use to pierce with cannot actually be sterilized, and it will leave a ragged puncture wound that will take a long time to heal. A trained piercer will only use hollow, single-use needles. This needle will remove a tiny core of flesh after sliding in very swiftly and painlessly. Using a trained piercer can help you avoid an extended healing time and severe infections.

When you are looking for jewelry for your body piercing, you'll have a wide array to choose from. Take some time to discuss the piercing jewelry with your piercer; many people are at least a little bit allergic to nickel and this can lead to a lot of irritation and inflammation. Most piercers will use jewelry that is made out of surgical steel, which lacks nickel altogether. Titanium and niobium are also possible when you are looking for good, non-allergenic metals.

Make sure you think about the consequences of getting pierced. While many piercings are becoming more acceptable and even desirable in a professional context, you'll find that your workplace might have some rules and regulations about it. Make sure you understand what the results might be of wearing a nostril piercing or an eyebrow piercing to work. Similarly, remember that many sports that are high contact and even some that aren't will not allow you to wear jewelry on to the field. When you think about the fact that you should not take your jewelry on and off while it is healing, this can be quite problematic.

As you can see, there are a lot of things to think about when you are considering getting pierced. Remember though, that your body should express the person you are. Think about how you feel about your body now, and how you think you would feel about it after you've gotten the piercing or piercings that you are interested in. You'll find that a critical look at the way you think about body jewelry is a great way to access the beauty inside you.

Designer Jewelry

Usually, when the word designer is attached to an item, like 'designer jeans' or 'designer clothes,' it means that the item has been made by a well-known designer, making the item very valuable. This is because designer items cost more to produce than items that have not been created by famous designers. This is very true with regard to jewelry, as well. A piece of jewelry that has been designed by some of the most famous jewelry houses are considered more valuable, and the price tags of most of them attest to this fact.

Some notable designers

Some of the more notable designers of fine jewelry include Coco Chanel and Elsa Shiparelli, whose designs were not only applied to fine jewelry. They were also used in combination with costume jewelry. Other notable designers include Adrian Buckley, Christian Dior, Joan Rivers, Joan Collins, Ciro, Butler and Wilson, Swarovski, Pearlman House, and Napier, who, up to this day, continue to come up with high-quality fashion jewelry.

Getting designer jewelry

Nowadays, you need not go to a jewelry store or to the shops of some of the more famous jewelry houses in order to buy designer jewelry. This is because the jewelry houses have joined the E-commerce bandwagon and they now sell their jewelry online. From these web sites, you can pick from a wide selection of jewelry. You could also have customized jewelry made for you. In addition to this, these web sites also provide other helpful information that can guide you in your purchase. For example, some sites explain what you should look for when buying diamonds. However, some people still prefer going to the stores because they believe that nothing beats seeing and fitting the jewelry yourself.

If you choose to buy online, you should be careful when doing so and you should make sure that you are buying from a reputable jeweler, as the Internet also hosts some unscrupulous companies who may want to fool you out of your money.

Designer jewelry is considered to be more valuable than other types of jewelry because it has been designed by some of the most famous jewelry designers and people who buy the pieces are assured of getting the highest quality jewelry. Recently, getting this kind of jewelry has become easier because they can be purchased online. However, when doing so, consumers should be careful and make sure that they buy jewelry from reputable jewelry houses to ensure they get only the best designer jewelry.

Worlds Biggest Diamond (Carat, Weight & Size)

The world's largest diamond was the Cullinan, found in South Africa in 1905. It weighed 3,106.75 carats uncut. It was cut into the Great Star of Africa, weighing 530.2 carats, the Lesser Star of Africa, which weighs 317.40 carats, and 104 other diamonds of nearly flawless colour and clarity. They now form part of the British crown jewels.

The Cullinan was three times the size of the next largest diamond, the Excelsior, which was also found in South Africa. The world's largest documented polished diamond - unearthed in 1986, also in South Africa - is called Unnamed Brown. It weighs 545 carats and was cut down from a 700 carat rough diamond. It took an international team of expert cutters 3 years to complete the masterpiece. Another impressive diamond that also took 3 years to cut, and also is part of the British crown jewels, is the Centenary Diamond. It weighs 273.85 carats and is the world's largest flawless diamond.

Carat is the term used to express the weight of a diamond, with one carat equaling 200 milligrams of actual weight.

Carat Abbreviations

The abbreviation ct is a shortened way to write carat, and refers to the weight of a single diamond.

The abbreviation ct TW means carat total weight, and is used to express the total weight of multiple diamonds used in a piece of jewelry.

Carat Weight vs. Size

Carat weight is used as a measure for other gemstones, but different gems of the same weight aren't necessarily the same size, because some gemstones are more dense than others--meaning that they pack more weight into a smaller space.

Weight of Small Diamonds

The weight of smaller diamonds is often expressed as points, not carats. There are 100 points in a carat. Another way to look at it is to say that each point equals 0.01, or one-hundredth, of a carat.

Jewelry Hallmarks

Jewelry hallmarks are a relief to individuals trying to date and authenticate antique jewelry. However, knowing exactly what jewelry hallmarks are and recognizing them is significantly more difficult. Basically, a jewelry hallmark is simply the indented number on the metal that reflects the amount of metal in a piece of jewelry. This guarantees the purity of the metal and is not a maker's mark. However, some jewelry hallmarks do include maker's marks as well. It is important to understand that a maker's mark and a jewelry hallmark are not the same thing at all. Most of the time jewelry hallmarks are found on valuable objects and although it is sometimes found on jewelry it is not always. Although, when a jewelry hallmark appears on a jewel it lends many clues as to where the piece of jewelry was manufactured as well as when and even the metal content.

London's Goldsmiths' Hall of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths initiated the first hallmarks and keeps track of all the hallmarks that have been used throughout Britain's history. Basically, a hallmark is a impression in a fine metal that reveals its karat or quality. Generally, hallmarks are found on gold, platinum, and even silver. These hallmarks, also called purity marks, may sometimes contain a maker's mark, exportation mark, or more depending on where it was made and by who and whether it was exported or not.

British hallmarks are especially interesting because they have been used since the 14th century. France is another country that has also used hallmarks since this point in history. There are a lot of other countries that use hallmarks, mostly European ones. However, the United States has never really used hallmarks. The type of metal in carats and purity is marked in the United States, but the use of actual hallmarks never really caught on like it did in the European countries.

As far as British hallmarks are concerned there were usually five different symbols marked on a precious metal. These included the standard mark, city mark, date letter, duty mark, and maker's mark. Not always was a maker's mark included, and the marks could appear in any order. However, when reviewing a piece of jewelry or antique made of a precious metal the hallmarks give away where it was made, with what, if duty had been paid, and more.

The British hallmark system is pretty difficult and complicated, but it is pretty constant and once you learn it it is not so difficult to determine what the hallmarks mean. However, there are other hallmarks from other countries that are significantly more difficult to decipher and determine what the hallmarks mean. There has been significant research into hallmarks, both British and other European hallmarks, so finding out where a specific item came from and when it was made is a lot easier today with the help of the Internet. Nevertheless, hallmarks con provide plenty of clues into the origination of a precious item although the clues can sometimes be practically impossible to decipher.

Now that you know a little more about jewelry hallmarks you will be more prepared to conduct your own research into the origination of certain antique pieces in your possession. Of course, if you are really interested you might become a collector or a hallmark expert. Regardless, hallmarks provide a lot of information about different pieces of jewelry and other fine objects. It just takes time and effort to determine what the hallmarks stand for.

Buying Guide for a Mikimoto Pearl Necklace

The highest quality cultured pearl necklaces are those produced and created by Mikimoto. These pearls are known for their unparalleled beauty and brilliance. It is said that once you wear Mikimoto pearls, any other kind of pearl will seem second-rate. Mikimoto pearls are so refined in quality that its fans include the royal families of Britain and Japan, Marilyn Monroe and Monaco’s Princess Grace.

Here are some information on what Mikimoto cultured pearls are, where they came from and how to buy them.

How pearls are formed

A pearl is the result of an oyster or mollusks’ reaction to an irritant that invades its shell. To try to protect itself, the mollusk secretes a crystalline substance called nacre which builds up in layers upon layers, surrounding the irritant. When this happens, a pearl is born.

Pearls have been cultured for centuries not just in Japan, but in other countries as well. Much of the products result to semispherical pearls, also called mabe pearls from the oyster that grew them, and not in the more coveted spherical pearls. It was Kokichi Mikimoto who developed a special technique to induce oysters to create a round pearl.

The man behind the name

Cultured pearls as we know them, owe a lot to Kokichi Mikimoto, the man who perfected the pearl culturing method that is still used today. Contrary to popular belief, he did not invent the industry although he did play a very significant role in advancing the techniques which contributed to the improvement in cultured pearl quality.

Mikimoto, the son of a noodle restaurant owner, was born in 1885 in Toba City, Japan. He was first introduced to pearls when he started raising oysters. Around this time, Japan was already trading pearls with other countries and pearl oysters were in danger of becoming over-harvested. Mikimoto decided to concentrate on experiments in seeding oysters and producing pearls.

The first endeavors were failures. Mikimoto and his colleagues repeatedly encountered disappointing results, due in part to uncontrollable factors like water temperature and red tide. But this did nothing to dissuade Mikimoto from his dream.

His efforts paid off eventually. On July 11, 1893, with his wife Ume, he discovered a beautiful pearl in one of his oysters. He never looked back since. By the time he died in 1954, the highly honored Mikimoto had successfully advocated and promoted cultured pearls and opened markets all over the world. Today, his name is synonymous to the highest quality cultured pearls.

Buying your Mikimoto pearl necklace

Pearl necklaces come in several lengths. From the shortest to the longest, they are: collar (10”-13”), choker (14”-16”), princess (18”-20”), matinee (20”-24”), opera (28”-34”) and rope (37” and longer). The length of the pearl necklace will depend on the woman’s age, body composition and neck size, although an 18 to 24-inch pearl necklace is a good length for anyone. Generally speaking, the longer the necklace, the more it ‘elongates’ the neck.

The mark of “M”

Every jewelry created by Mikimoto including pearl necklaces, has an “M” stamped on its setting. This is a guarantee of quality. However, in some cases, the mark of “M” will only guarantee that the setting is genuine and not the pearls, which can be replaced and restrung.

A caveat: there is a black market for Mikimoto clasps, where original Mikimoto clasps are used for cheaper or imitation-quality pearls. Beware also of ‘closeout’ Mikimoto sales, even if they come in ‘new’ 18k gold.

The best way to distinguish a true high-quality Mikimoto pearl from other pearls is to look for a unique road map or line pattern on the surface of the pearls under a 10x magnifying lens. Experienced jewelers can recognize this. On your own, you will want to find genuine Mikimoto pearls to compare with your intended purchase. Once you see the difference, true Mikimoto pearls are easily recognizable.

You might also encounter pearl necklaces that are labeled ‘Mikimoto quality’. This is misleading. These are not pearls produced under the patented Mikimoto process. True Mikimoto pearl necklaces are those produced under stringent conditions in Ise in Honshu, Japan.

Akoya vs. Mikimoto

Another fine quality pearl is akoya pearls, although this is a general term used to refer to saltwater pearls. These are not Mikimoto pearls and they don’t cost the same.

Grading method

Mikimoto pearls are rated using four grades, with AAA being the highest. There are 4 sub-grades starting with AAA1. Highest-grade pearls are those with the best luster and reflective quality, almost mirror-like, while lower-grade pearls are those with reasonably clear reflection.

When buying your Mikimoto pearl necklace, be sure to ask for grading certificates. This is not only good for insurance, but it is also a guarantee that what you are paying for is a true Mikimoto pearl necklace.

How To Make A Hemp Necklace The Hippie Way With Insider Tips And Tricks

Materials to make a hemp necklace.

Hemp

Beads

Scissors

Optional materials.

Glue

Shower ring

Step 1. Cut your hemp cord.

a) Cut two cords that are 5 feet 8 inches in length. This is going to be your knotting cord.

Tip - I don't whip out a tape measure every time I need to measure my hemp. I measure it against myself. I pull it out to the width of both my arms spread to their max and cut it their. It's much quicker than measuring it with a tape measure.

b) Cut one thread or thin cord that is 2 feet 10 inches in length. This is going to be your center string. If you are using beads the will go on this string so make sure they fit. I measure it from my finger tips to my neck.

Tip - I like to use more hemp than I need. It's always easier to cut a little bit off than to fix the necklace if their isn't enough.

Step 2. Starting out.

a) Take the two knotting cords they are the thicker and longer cords and tie them together using an over hand knot. To do an over hand knot make a loop go threw the loop and pull tight.

b) Take the shorter thinner center string and both knotting cords and tie them together using an over hand knot two inches from where you made your first over hand knot.

c) Braid all three cords together for about 2 inches. Then tie them off with an over hand knot.

Step 3. Add beads.

a) Add the beads you want to use.

Tip - If it's hard to push the center string threw the beads because they have small holes. Place a drop of general purpose glue on your index finger then position the center string on the glue 4 inches from the end and pinch in place with your thumb. Then pull the string threw your thumb and index finger distributing glue along the final four inches of length. If some areas are still dry repeat. Hang the glued end in the air to dry for thirty minutes to an hour or until hard.

Step 4. Macrame.

Tip - The knots are much quicker and easier to tie if the center string is tight. So I take the loop that I created in step two and put it on a shower ring then I attach the shower ring to a hook or wall. I then take the center string and tie it to one of the belt loops on my pants.

a) Take your two knotting cords. Pull them to opposite sides of the center string.

The basic knot is called a square knot. It can be started from the left or from the right.

Their are two designs that can be created spiral and flat.

The flat design is created when you alternate your knots. Left, right, left, right or right, left, right, left.

The spiral design is created when you tie the same knot. Left, left, left, left or right, right, right, right.

It doesn't matter which knot you start with it matters which knot you follow up with.

Tying a left knot.

a) To tie a square knot starting on the left you take the cord on the left and lay it over the center string creating a loop on the left.

b) Next take the cord on the right and go over the left cord then under the center string and up threw the loop on the left of the center string.

c) Pull tight.

Tying a square knot starting on the right involves the same process started on the right side of the necklace.

When you are ready for a bead move the bead up behind the last knot you tied then tie your next knot on the other side of the bead.

Continue tying knots and adding beads until you get to your desired length.

I usually stop a necklace when the macrame and bead portion is long enough to stretch around my neck and touch ends.

Finish the macrame portion of the necklace by tying all three cords together in an over hand knot.

Step 5 finishing the hemp necklace.

a) Braid all three cords together for about 2 inches. Then tie them off with an over hand knot.

b) Cut off the remaining length of the center string.

c) Take the two knotting cords and tie them together using an over hand knot.

d) Cut off any remaining length and you are done.

Tip - The braided portion and loop on the end is for tying it off. You give them 4 inches of braid and four inches of loop so that they can tie it off to the length they desire and dispose of the rest.

Maintaining Your Jewelry - Keeping Your Jewelry in a Case

Jewelry cases or jewelry boxes as called by some are the most perfect thing to store your expensive belongings. They are usually rectangular and sometimes round too. However, it is important that the case that you are buying should be as per your necessity and need. You can choose the ones that are with or without a mirror, the compartment size, number of pieces it can accommodate and so on.

Jewelry cases are usually beautifully crafted and are of simple colors. You can find a lot of variety in them. For example, a jewelry box that comes for a little girl can be musical and the ones that are for ladies will emphasize more on the compartments and different styles you can place your jewelry, gems and stones. These cases will definitely store your jewelry but if they are not designed in the right way, they can also hamper your precious jewelry. These cases should also be handled with a lot of care as the material used in these boxes can be easily damaged as they are delicate.

Usually the jewelry cases have velvet lining inside so that your jewelry is placed in the right way and the softness of the material will help in maintaining the shine and quality of your stones. If the lining is not properly done or if the surface is hard, it makes the possibility of the jewelry getting damaged high. This is the same reason why people prefer keeping the jewelry in pouches as a substitute to the case as it helps the jewelry get the delicate surface. However, the draw back of the se pouches are that since they don't have a hard surface they can even bend the jewelry if not kept at a proper place.

It is important that you should be able to maintain the jewelry case in the most perfect manner as just buying them is not enough. Due to the soft lining, try to handle it in a delicate manner, keep it away from heat and moisture as they can hamper the jewelry inside the box. Another thing that is important to be kept in mind is that the jewelry boxes that come with external or internal locks will help you maintain the security of your jewelry as well.

You will be able to find amazing designs and variety of materials for you jewelry box. Not only this you can shop online and look at different possibilities that will come your way. However, before you decide on buying a jewelry box, it is also important that you should be able to place your jewelry well inside the box in a way that they do not get spoiled and hampered.

Building a Jewelry Collection Without Spending Much

There are people who find jewelry irresistible but find the price too much for their pocket. Mostly you may think that a glamorous collection is impossible and way beyond your means. Fortunately, there are some practical ways that you can work out if you wish to have some form of jewelry collection. If you are thinking of building up your very own treasure chest of jewelry items but you don't have enough funds yet, do not lose hope. In this article, we will explore some of the time tested methods of acquiring precious items in no time.

Check out different shops

Go from one shop to another and compare their prices. If your budget doesn't reach the prices of the local jewelers, try to check online jewelers. You will find a significant difference in the prices, mainly because of the volume of business that the online jewelers can achieve plus the fact that they have much lower overhead operation cost than a physical store.

Go for Sale season

You may also find a great deal by purchasing items on sale. After choosing a jewelry retailer shop, check for their items on sale. Impossible as it may sound but many online retailers usually offer a sale price for their first time customers just to make the new buyer try on their products. Always hunt for the four letter word S A L E!

Maximize coupons

Save some more by using your coupons. You may receive coupons by registering or signing up to their shopper's membership. This is often overlooked but coupons or promos are effortless ways to save some money where you can get the item you want with a hefty coupon rebate.

Use the plastic card

If you would like to save money after purchasing any jewelry piece, you may use a credit card or a membership card that have rewards programs or cash back bonus. Almost all online retailers now accept credit cards making shopping online not just fun and easy but rewarding also.

Save on shipping costs

You may also get big savings if you reach a certain amount of purchase. The retailer might offer to give you shipping discounts or sometimes, if you are lucky, the seller might not ask you to shoulder the shipping costs. For these things, try checking out the policies on shipping.

Choose your gem and metal

If you find platinum and gold too expensive or the real high carat diamond way beyond your means, try sterling silver with cubic zirconia. The combination of these two creates similar elegance as those jewelries made of 18K white gold and real diamonds.

Sterling silver, if taken care properly can have the luster that can mimic the glow of white gold. Cubic zirconia, if chosen properly is perfect for any ring or earring designs. You will definitely get the praises, without spending much on the real thing.

Building a jewelry collection is not that hard or expensive after all. Be smart enough to find a great deal or grab some of those bright alternative picks. This way, you will have the elegance and the beauty without having to spend a fortune.

2.02 cttw Created Sapphire and Genuine Diamond Heart Pendant - 14kt White or Yellow Gold

2.02 cttw Created Sapphire and Genuine Diamond Heart Pendant - 14kt White or Yellow Gold Review

We just placed an order for this pendant as a last minute holiday gift, but we have allready received 3 matching ones in blue topaz, Created Ruby and garnet for my sisters for the holidays... and we loved them so much that we oerdered this one for my Mom! I wrote a review based on the ones we have allready received since we were so happy with them, and I wanted to put my feedback in before the holidays for any of you last minute shoppers!
The gem is just stunning. Very brilliant, clear, great color and quite large. The diamond is not a chip. White, bright and very clean. We loved the style, is classic and very elegant. The size overall is just perfect, not too small and the stone itself makes a great statement. What really impressed us was the "grand" presentation. The free gift packaging looks expensive and makes it really an impressive gift with no need to wrap. We got a free chain with the pendant... a bit thin but looks very well made. Shipping was very fast as we got all pendants in just 3 days.
Overall this makes a perfect gift. We selected my sisters birthstones and can't wait to get their reaction. I hope this review helped as most jewelry items don't have any. It is nice to know what to expect ordering jewelry online.

Tungsten Ring Design

Tungsten rings are both ornamental and functional. Its design should reflect these two virtues. Its shape, size, and overall appearance should complement the way it's meant to be worn. In other words, a tungsten ring form should match its function. A tungsten carbide ring, for example, should stay comfortably in place on the finger.

In the variety of tungsten jewelry styles available today, one aspect of a good design tends to remain constant, and that's balance. Balance doesn't necessarily mean that all design elements are identical. An abstract pendant can be asymmetrical, which a design that incorporates elements that don't exactly match each other. The pearls in a pair of earrings can be different colors. An elegant cluster pendant might have diamonds in different sizes and shapes. But there is usually some balancing element in the design that pulls it all together.

Tungsten jewelry designers experiment with many elements common to other visual arts, including color, pattern, and line. Combined with the all-important ingredient of imagination, these elements comprise breathtaking "wearable art" that is both beautiful and practical.

Good design doesn't need to be complex or avant-garde. On the contrary, it can be deceptively simple. Consider a fairly basic tungsten carbide ring design - simple round wedding band. If this tungsten wedding band flatters the finger, then their design, however simple, fits the manufacturer's intended purpose and adds value to the item for the customer.

Good design can also include versatility. Examples of design versatility are necklaces with removable brooches, pearl strands that convert to choker-and-bracelet sets and earring jackets that transform the look of simple stud earrings. Versatile design is an advantage to someone on a limited budget as well as to someone who simply wants to expand a jewelry wardrobe without buying a lot of different pieces.

Why Gold Jewelry Continues To Be The Most Popular Form Of Jewelry

Through the years to most people gold has been thought to be the most valuable and desired metal of them all. By many it has been the best thing that they will every want and most people that try and dig it up are the ones that seem to love for it the most. Set aside from buying used as money it has been the primary metal in making fine jewelry that is mot expensive. Even though gold back in the day was used to show power and wealth nowadays it is worn to show a person's uniqueness.

That is just why the gold in jewelry has not been stopped from being made. In most cases gold jewelry was used to show ones power but now it is used to create most body jewelry that we see on a lot people today. Body jewelry is the type that is placed on the body to show people more of a person such as the popular belly rings. From just big valuable stones to what the rappers are wearing bling bling and this type of jewelry seems to be the most expensive.

You can find high quality gold in many jewelry shops but you can also get fools gold and be a fool. More common and more pieces that people can buy are silver and stainless steel. The most costly type of metal today thought is platinum.

Another thing is that gold is heavy and can be very heavy if bought in bulk. This is if you buy more of it and want to make it into something else you can burn it down and reform it to create it into something else. This is also a good thing if you have a lot of small gold pieces and you want to make something larger.

Anyways a lot of gold body jewelry is not made to be of that real gold. Gold body jewelry can be created of that of real properties but it can fool you into thinking its real but it is often found cheap so therefore that is a sign that’s its not real.

Anyway of course these pieces of body jewelry are not intended to last forever they will often fade and show you the real metal that lies beneath it. Most of the time it will be a greenish metal by the time you ever see it. Others it will be brown. So you should just go out and get a real piece of gold to wear, other than wearing something that will over time fade and show through what it really is. Real gold isn’t cheap but will be of that much greater value if ever needed to be passed down.

Online Jewelry Store, Basic Knowledge Part 1

An Online Jewelry Store is without question one of the best starting points for your online business venture. Initial outlay is minimal, product is easy to handle and returns can be massive.

This article is part 1 of a 3 part tutorial that discusses some basic knowledge you should know when you decide that the jewelry industry is the path you want to take. Parts 2 and 3: Gold rating and Watches are still to be released. They can however be found on our website: http://watches-n-jewelry.com.

The Four c's & Valuation

The four c's stand for color, clarity, cut & carat. These are the parameters used when valuing a diamond and various other precious stones.

For now, we will concentrate on diamonds as these are the most popular of all gemstones.

Color refers to the tint or shade of the stone. The clearer the stone, the greater the value. Most people look on diamonds as being expensive clear see-through objects. We all know that diamonds are expensive. Clear and see-through however is on the whole not the case. Practically all diamonds used in jewelry will have faint, barely visible yellow or brown tints. To determine the affect the color has on the value of a stone; the D-Z Color Grading Scale was developed, with D being colorless and Z being light yellow.

Clarity or clearness represents the amount of flaws or blemishes on the surface of, or inside the stone. The rule is, the fewer flaws a stone has, the more expensive it will be. The Gemological Institute of America, GIA grades clarity in the following manner:

(fl) Flawless; Shows no inclusions or blemishes of any sort under 10X magnification when observed by an experienced grader.

(if) Internally Flawless; Has no inclusions when examined by an experienced grader using 10X magnification, but will have some minor blemishes.

(vvs1 and vvs2) Very Very Slightly Included; Contains minute inclusions that are difficult even for experienced graders to see under 10X magnification.

(vs1 and vs2) Very Slightly Included; Contains minute inclusions such as small crystals, clouds, or feathers when observed with effort under 10X magnification.

(si1 and si2) Slightly Included; Contains inclusions (clouds, included crystals, knots, cavities, and feathers) that are noticeable to an experienced grader under 10X magnification.

(i1, i2, i3) Included; Contains inclusions (possibly large feathers or large included crystals) that are obvious under 10X magnification and may affect transparency and brilliance.

Our advice to both dealers and consumers is to look for jewelry pieces with diamonds of SI1 and SI2 or VS1 and VS2 clarity. The cost of anything above VS2 is prohibitive and you are likely to get complaints if you offer pieces with diamonds of I1-I3 standard.

Cut refers to the finish or the shape and style of the diamond. There are many different cuts; the most popular in our experience is the brilliant or round cut.

Carat is the term used to express the weight of a diamond. One carat is equivalent to 200 milligrams. The weight measurement for smaller diamonds is often referred to as points with one hundred points making up one carat.

Valuation. Large diamonds are rare and consequently more sought after than smaller stones of the same quality. The added demand affects the value and therefore a larger stone can attract a higher price. A solitaire ring for example with a one carat stone will almost always be more expensive than a ring with say, three stones making up one or even more than one carat. This is where something we refer to as carat levels becomes relevant. Stones of 9/10ths of a carat rather than one carat or 1.90 carat instead of two carat are normally less expensive.

Tip When you buy a piece of diamond jewelry, always aim for just under the next full carat. There is no visible difference when the stone is set but there are big savings in cost.
